Moore National Champ, Warriors 3rd at NCCAA
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Zach Moore is the 2013 NCCAA National Champion after holding on at the championship played at The Hombre Golf Course.
Moore was the leader after each of the first two rounds, shooting a five-under 67 on day one and following that up with a 69 on Tuesday. The junior had his worst round on Wednesday, shooting a 75, but was able to hold on to his two-day lead. Moore finished at 211 for the tournament, two-shots ahead of Sam Johnston from Oklahoma Christian.
The Warriors placed third as a team with a score of 878, just out-pacing Oklahoma Christian by one stroke. Lee University was the team champion, shooting 869 and had three players in the top-10.
SWU’s Tyler Cozad finished in a tie for ninth after shooting a final-round-low-69. Cozad finished at 218 for the tournament after shooting a four-over 76 on the first day. David Brown finished 27th with a 225 (74-76-75), Matthew Moore was 32nd with a 228 (76-75-77) and Zach Casto finished 34th with a 230 (72-78-80).
Both Zach Moore and Cozad were named NCCAA All-Americans for their efforts.
The Warriors close out their fall season and will take aim at qualifying for the NAIA National Championship in the spring.
