SWU Celebrates December 2024 Graduates
On Friday, December 13, 2024, Southern Wesleyan University celebrated its on-campus and online graduates at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the main campus.
Dr. Jonathan Sircy, Chair of the School of Religion and Humanities and Professor of English, gave the commencement speech. He addressed the students saying "Of all the things I want you to observe today, it is the God who is with you in the monotony of life. He is strong enough for it. He will continually give you new mercies to not just withstand that monotony but to exalt in it.
So then, a blessing, graduates. May you do more than remember to wear sunscreen (although it’s not a bad idea). May you truly hear and feel the expressions of congratulations you receive today because you’ve done something significant.
May you observe that the world God has made is abundant, even when all you’re doing is going to Aldi to get some milk. May the eyes of your understanding be enlightened so that you understand the hope to which Jesus Christ has called you, an understanding your education here at SWU has helped free you to more fully observe. And finally, may you know and love and serve the God who knows and loves you better than you know and love yourself."
The University Brass Ensemble and University Singers provided music during the ceremony. Rev. Heath Mullikin led the invocation and the Litany of Servanthood. Dr. Robert McFarland presented the graduates, and Dr. William Barker conferred the degrees.
The Benson School of Business also had its first graduate, Joshua Kingsmore, from the Doctor of Business Administration program.
