SWU Provides Opportunity to Follow Life’s Calling
Abby Avant grew up with a passion for finding her life’s calling and pursuing it. Fortunately, she found support at every stage of her life – including ultimately at her chosen university.
Abby’s family’s encouragement started when she was very young and continues to today. “My family has been so supportive of my education and I know that after school they will support me in what I choose to pursue. That makes me more willing to take risks and truly find God’s calling for me.”
Her sense of calling eventually drew her to major in History and Public Policy at Southern Wesleyan University. “In school, my favorite subject had always been history. I had incredible teachers who made history come to life and made sure that students understood the importance of our past. Those teachers and other influential people in my life have made me want to become a lifelong learner and there is forever history in the making.”
Abby found SWU to be the perfect place for her to pursue her calling. Beyond offering a high quality degree program, it also provides the supportive kind of “family” that she enjoyed and valued earlier in her life. “Even though SWU is a small university, I have found the best community of people here. Some of the people I’ve met at SWU will be lifelong friends. Because of that, I am always excited to come back to SWU.”
To others who are considering studying History and Public Policy at SWU, Abby offers some enthusiastic advice and support of her own. “I would make sure that they know that chasing a dream in the arts or in history is just as important and noble as studying subjects based on technology, science, or engineering. We need more people in the world willing to look into the past to see how we can help the future.”
And as Abby has learned, that future can get a great start at Southern Wesleyan University.
