Lifeguard / Hall Chaplain

The Lifeguard, Hall Chaplain program is designed to send students on a mission into the community of SWU to G.U.A.R.D. students in their community in their journey with Christ and empower their peers to seek Christ with all of their heart, soul, mind, and strength.

G - Godliness

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” - 1 Timothy 4:12

U - Unity

“I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!” - John 17:21-24

A - Abide

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.“ As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” - John 15:4-11

R -  Responsibility

“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.” - 1 Timothy 1:12

D - Discipleship

“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” - Hebrews 12:2

Lifeguard Mission

What is a Lifeguard? Lifeguards at Southern Wesleyan University exist as a unique student-to- student resident ministry that seeks to create Christian community and provide godly care to all students. Lifeguards are committed to:

• Praying for each student in their area
• Helping run Chapel Services
• Prayer before, during, and after chapel services
• Serving Communion Special Events
• Reaching out intentionally to students
• Connecting with a Monthly Event or On-Campus Leadership Role Community and Discipleship events Discipleship Groups Campus Ministry Leadership
• Meeting with a Spiritual Life Mentor
• Attending Lifeguard Team Meetings
