Programs That Fit Your Schedule—No Matter What.
As an adult, school might look and feel a little different this time around, but we’ve formatted our programs just for you. Our courses were designed to be hands-on and to teach you practical skills that you can begin implementing into your career immediately. With classes led by professors who are experts in their fields, you’ll stay engaged and challenged as you complete interactive activities and participate in class-wide discussions that expose you to new perspectives.
Online Class Format
Our 100% online degree programs give you the opportunity to earn the same degree as students who take in-person classes. The difference? You get to choose when and where you learn.
Don’t worry—we’ve put measures in place to ensure your success. In addition to support from your dedicated faculty advisor, you’ll have access to plenty of learning tools and resources that can help you navigate the semester. We want to see you become a leader in your professional field, even if we only get to connect virtually.
Not quite sure if online learning is for you? Check out Canvas, our learning management system, for a sneak peek into SWU’s online course experience.
Academic Term Calendars
The academic year is divided into three 15-week academic terms: Fall (August-December), Spring (January-May), and Summer (May-July). Within each term, courses are divided into 7-week sub-terms.
Undergraduate Term Schedule
For undergraduate programs (associate and bachelor's programs), courses are offered in three 7-week sub-terms each term. Full-time students generally take one course per sub-term.
Master's and Doctoral Term Schedule
For master's and doctoral level programs, courses are offered in two 7-week sub-terms each term. These programs are generally more challenging than our undergraduate programs, therefore we recommend graduate students focus on one class at a time.
Time Commitment
On average, you can expect to spend about 15 hours per week completing your studies, though this may be different depending on the course you’re completing. To ensure you stay on track with course goals and learning outcomes, we do record attendance—measured by your active participation in the course and submission of assignments by their due dates. And because we respect your work-life balance, we do allow time off to celebrate holidays.
Online COURSE SYLLABI
You’ll be given a syllabus for every course you take, that way you know exactly what’s coming next. Each syllabus will detail the overall goals of the course, outline your weekly assignments and projects, and explain steps you’ll take to master the coursework.
TEXTBOOKS AND MATERIALS
Books and other course materials can be purchased through our online bookstore. You can choose to buy new or used, rent a hard copy or even purchase an e-book. We’ve provided multiple options, so you can find the format and price that works for you.
Southern Wesleyan University reserves the right to modify course delivery based on enrollment volume. Our desire is to provide a rich academic experience throughout your degree program.
