Student Support
The Information Technology (IT) department is an essential resource for students navigating the digital landscape of modern education. With services ranging from hardware support to software assistance, IT provides a comprehensive suite of solutions to ensure that students can focus on their studies without worrying about technical issues. Need help setting up your device? IT is there to guide you through the process. Encountering a software problem? They can troubleshoot and provide solutions. And if your device needs repairs, IT has got you covered. Additionally, if you find yourself without a working laptop, temporary loaner laptops are available to ensure you stay connected to your coursework. Our department is dedicated to providing the resources students need to succeed in their academic pursuits.
Student SupportFaculty & Staff Support
Information Technology (IT) department provides technical support to all academic and administrative PC users. This includes the campus network infrastructure and equipment, university-approved software, and telecommunication equipment and services. Faculty and Staff are encouraged to contact the help desk with hardware, network and university-approved software issues.
When placing a call users should be prepared to provide the SWU ID number, located on each piece of the equipment, their name, telephone number, department and a detailed description of the problem. The help desk staff will generate a work order and assign a work order number. E-mail notification will be sent to the caller when possible. Users should reference the work order number when checking the status of the work order.

Southern Wesleyan University provides multiple computer labs. There are also computers available for student use on the first and second floors of Rickman Library. Lab computers are running Windows 11 and have Microsoft Office 365 and a variety of other curriculum based software. All computers are connected to the campus network and Internet browsing is available at all locations. Labs are closed to students during scheduled computer classes. First and Second floor library computers are available for use during normal library hours. Rickman Library also has a 24/7 lab with a multifunction printer for all your late night computing/printing needs. Also mobile printing service (PaperCut) is provided to students to allow wireless printing from student owned systems. Software installation on university owned computers is limited to information technology employees or representatives. Unauthorized software installation including downloading and/or copying will result in disciplinary action.
The university provides each resident student a connection to the campus network. Therefore, we have established a recommended computer specifications list. However, we cannot guarantee that all computers will be successfully connected to the campus network. A 10/100 Ethernet card or wireless card is required. We strongly recommend recording the serial number, model number and description of all electronic equipment before bringing to campus. The information technology department periodically monitors student’s Internet and campus network activity both in the labs and the resident facilities. Inappropriate use of these resources, as defined in the acceptable use policies, will result in loss of lab privileges, disconnection from the campus network and disciplinary action.
There are basically two technology fees that students are subject to pay.
Student Resource Fee – The student resource fee is assessed to online students at a rate of $400 per semester. The fee for fall and spring on-campus students is $1000 per semester. Payment of the fee permits enrolled students to freely use technology resources such as software, computer labs, general use computers in the resident halls and library, network resources, on-line library databases, portfolios to present academic and experiential work, and other campus technology services and supplies without incurring per use charges. The fee also covers I.T. Helpdesk support by online incident submission or telephone call. It also helps with the establishment of a Chalk and Wire account, which is a web-based system that provides a place for students to create electronic portfolios – a benefit available in many universities. The portfolios will enable them to present their academic and experiential work in a portable format they can carry with them after graduation.
Technology Repair Fee - An optional $50 one-time fee is available as needed to cover the cost of computer repairs. Services included in the cost of the repair fee are: installation of anti-virus, network configuration, *hard drive or RAM replacement/installation, re-installation of the operating system if deemed necessary, and virus removal. We are not responsible for damage to other components unless damage is the result of a technician’s error. Payment of this one-time fee covers a student for the duration of his or her continuous full-time enrollment. Students can pay this fee at the time repair services are needed.
*The purchase of any hardware replacement/upgrades will be the responsibility of the student.
