Williams inducted into Roberts Wesleyan's Athletics Hall of Fame
The Roberts Wesleyan College Athletics Department announced the 2019 Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees earlier this month. Among those chosen to join the prestigious club is '92 BS and '00 MS graduate – Chris Williams. Williams currently serves as the director of athletics at Southern Wesleyan University.
Williams has been at Southern Wesleyan since 2007, having moved south after a career at Roberts Wesleyan as both a player (men's basketball '88-'92) and coach (women's basketball asst. coach '92-'99 and head coach '99-'04).
As a player, Williams played the point guard position during his four year career – notching over 1,000 points, twice earning All-District honors and upon graduation he was ranked in the top 3 for assists in a career.
As a head coach, Williams guided both the Roberts Wesleyan College and SWU's women's basketball programs. During his time as head coach his teams advanced to three NCCAA national championship games. Under his guidance, the Southern Wesleyan Women's Basketball team won the National Championship title, bringing home the first ever national championship for the Warriors. His teams also traveled on short term missions trips to Puerto Rico and the Czech.
Chris Williams became the second director of athletics in the history of Southern Wesleyan University in the fall of 2007, following in the footsteps of Warrior Athletics 'Founding Father', Dr. C. Keith Connor. Entering his 13th year at the helm of the Southern Wesleyan's Athletics Department, Williams has led the charge in transitioning the Warriors from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II. He led the Warriors conference transition into Conference Carolinas gaining full membership in July of 2016. Williams enters his third term as the NCCAA president, serving on the NCCAA Board of Directors and the Administrative Committee.
The Roberts Wesleyan College Hall of Fame Celebration will take place Nov. 9 on the campus of RWC in Rochester, N.Y.
