    Ken Dickens, right, congratulates Dr. Betty Mealy on her accomplishments. Nominations for the honor are submitted by students, faculty and staff, then selected by a committee. Dickens is a graduate of the university and a retired elementary school principal of High Point, N.C.

     

    Dr. Betty Mealy, professor of English at Southern Wesleyan University, was named Faculty Member of the Year and received the Ken Dickens Award for Excellence in Teaching.
