SWU Voice Faculty and Alumnae Train and Perform in Germany
I was honored to be accepted into the International Performing Arts Institute for Musical Theatre. This program was a three-week intensive where I was surrounded by many talented performers who have a passion for the performing arts. We had a voice lesson and coaching every week along with daily dance and acting classes. My favorite part of the program was the preparation of scenes from operas and musicals for people who lived in the town of Kiefersfelden in which the program took place. Every single time we performed, audiences were appreciative, enthusiastic, and polite. In addition, the staff of IPAI was incredible, caring, and nurturing. They practiced what they taught, and they were real with us: we all worked together to improve and hone our performing careers. It is my hope to attend next year, and I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to pursue Musical Theatre. It was a fantastic experience and one that helped me grow as a person and a performer.
– Ashley Lamos, SWU Music Graduate
James was awarded a teaching fellowship, working with students in the program, music directing and performing in a faculty concert at Liederabend. Fernandez participated in the opera program and was awarded a scholarship to attend the Dramatic Voices Symposium at Loyola University in September. Lamos participated in the musical theatre program and was heard by a top casting director in Hamburg. Each day was packed with lessons, coaching, masterclasses, acting/dance classes, and performances.
