SWU offers new human services degree at North Augusta location
Southern Wesleyan University’s North Augusta location is offering a degree program for one of the nation’s most rapidly growing careers.
Despite the economic slowdown of the past few years, the demand for individuals to work in human services continues to grow. According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, employment of human and social service workers is expected to grow much faster than average through the year 2016.
“This degree prepares people for entry-level professional positions in the helping professions. Our society’s need for such professionals has never been greater,” said Dr. Russell Merritt, regional director for Southern Wesleyan University’s North Augusta location.
Based upon a Christian worldview, the degree program provides students with basic skills in the human services field and prepares students for more advanced work within the social sciences.
“Human Services graduates work in places such as public welfare agencies, private social services providers, victims’ services organizations and hospice programs. Also, this degree prepares graduates for graduate study in fields such as social work or counseling,” Merritt said. “We are honored to be able to serve students in the CSRA with this new major.”
Southern Wesleyan University is located at the Business Technology Center, 802 East Martintown Rd., Suite 101, in North Augusta.
