SWU names Hartsoe new registrar
Hartsoe comes to Southern Wesleyan with 20 years of higher education experience. Most recently, she served as registrar at the University of North Georgia, an institution of more than 16,000 students across four campuses in Northern Georgia, formed in 2012 from a merger of North Georgia College and State University with Gainesville State College, where she served as registrar since 2004. She was also associate registrar at the University of South Carolina.
Hartsoe earned her master’s degree in educational administration from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Appalachian State University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Starting out her career as an elementary schoolteacher, Hartsoe discovered an interest in academic records administration while doing graduate work, leading to a position in the registrar’s office of the University of South Carolina.
Walt Sinnamon, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Wesleyan, commented that Hartsoe has “a strong understanding about the college student experience and expertise in operational and resource management.” Sinnamon added that Hartsoe supervised a relatively large registrar’s office staff and managed operations, which included security, recording, and reporting of student data and records; crafting, implementation, and interpretation of operational, institutional, and governmental policies and procedures; course and classroom scheduling.
