SWU mourns Waters’ loss
Waters taught for 33 years in the public schools of South Carolina, serving as a regular education teacher, special education teacher and an administrator during those years. During his undergraduate education, Waters served as the editor of the college yearbook. In April of 2009, he was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by Southern Wesleyan University.
Waters received his doctorate in education in the area of child and youth studies, from Nova Southeastern University. He also earned his master of education degree in administration and supervision from Clemson University and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Armstrong College.
Waters was actively involved in the education field, having served on the South Carolina State Department of Education Subcommittee for Higher Education on the ADEPT evaluation instrument and the program review team for NCATE reviewing programs in special education for the South Carolina Department of Education. At Southern Wesleyan, he served on the faculty senate and the committee for disabilities.
Waters was also an active member of The Mount Church in Clemson.
Funeral services to honor the life of Dr. Waters will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28 at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center, 737 Wesleyan Drive in Central, on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Liberty Mortuary.
