SWU Hosts Third Literary Festival
CENTRAL, S.C. – On February 11th, Southern Wesleyan University hosted the third SWU Literary Festival. Students from Clemson University, Pickens High School, and Oconee Christian Academy presented original poetry and prose at the event.
The festival also featured two keynote addresses, one from SWU Professor Charissa Fryberger and another by Professor Jeremy Jones from Western Carolina University.
Fryberger addressed the group stating, “As writers we have the opportunity to be tour guides, and take our readers to fun places, unusual places, even imaginary places.” She concluded the event encouraging those attending to be fully present in each moment saying, “As you go I want you to think about not just going somewhere, but paying attention to where you are and really experiencing it.”
The festival, titled “South Carolina Real & Imagined,” was supported by the SWU College of Arts and Sciences and South Carolina Humanities, a not-for-profit organization that inspires, engages and enriches South Carolinians with programs on literature, history, culture and heritage.
