SWU announces music ensemble scholarships
The scholarship is open to students in other majors, in addition to music majors. Southern Wesleyan students involved in one of the university’s three performing groups may be eligible to receive scholarship money.
“On the vocal side, the Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Don Campbell, is well-known in this area for outstanding and uplifting performances of a wide variety of music,” said Jane Dill, chair of the university’s Division of Fine Arts and music professor. Campbell has led honor choirs and clinics in 14 states, Scotland and Canada. Many area students have sung with him in some of the local festival choruses he has directed.
Professor Greg Day directs the university’s Wind Ensemble and also the Jazz Ensemble. Day, who is a highly sought-after musician and professor, has many years of experience in the field of wind bands and jazz. He also leads the SWU Jazz Camp every year.
“His bands are recognized for their creative programming and giving students unique opportunities not available in other organizations,” Dill said, adding that the university is always seeking instrumentalists who have a love for wind band and jazz music and who want to play in a college setting.
“Southern Wesleyan’s Music Department has been a leader in music in the Upstate for many years. We are thrilled that this significant scholarship opportunity is available,” Dill said.
