Students assist Samaritan's Purse in Texas
A group of SWU students traveled to La Grange, Tex., over spring break March 9-15 to work with Samaritan’s Purse in construction of new houses for families who lost their homes to Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
According to Wes Pate, director of campus activities and intramurals, there was also one partner team of students from Central Michigan University. Students who went were Abril Avendano, Mischa Mercius, Colby Callaway, Jacob Clapp, Tori Bailey, Caroline Lamb, Katie Dailey, Emily Hoyt and Emma Gocke. They were accompanied by Pate and Chandler Myers, assistant director of campus activities.
"Each day we worked nine hours a day in the Texas heat and sometimes rain, doing carpentry and construction. At night we took time to hear how God had worked in our lives to bring us to this point. We were so encouraged by meeting the people we were building houses for and seeing the gratitude they had. It was an adventure that blessed us all," Pate said.
