Southern Wesleyan University names 2020 faculty, staff of the year

Dr. Kim Jedlicka, assistant professor of special education, was named Faculty Member of the Year. Lisa Corbin, assistant director institutional research and reporting, was named Staff Member of the Year.
Jedlicka received the Ken Dickens Award for Excellence in Teaching and was nominated by students, faculty and staff, then selected by the Faculty Member of the Year Committee. The Ken Dickens Award for Excellence in Teaching is named for Ken Dickens, a 1953 graduate and a retired educator, who established this award to recognize an outstanding faculty member each year.
Jedlicka, who came to Southern Wesleyan four years ago with experience as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and district-level administrator, said, “One of the things that excites me most is that I love to build relationships with my students. It is rewarding to establish a trusting relationship with my students where they feel comfortable taking risks in the classroom and participate fully in hands-on learning activities. We truly share our successes, sorrows and I love being able to share the love of Jesus on a daily basis.” She teaches in both the on-campus and online education programs.
Corbin, who is also a Southern Wesleyan graduate, worked in the university’s Student Accounts Office as account representative, senior account representative and assistant director before transitioning into the Institutional Effectiveness Office.
“In my position, I get the opportunity to collaborate all across campus. I’m often centralizing information from many areas into a common SWU story,” said Corbin. “My satisfaction comes from seeing the pieces across campus fit together to give a bigger picture. It reiterates that we are all part of story and every piece is important.”
The Staff Member of the Year is nominated and selected by students, faculty and staff.
