Southern Wesleyan names Caines as business dean
Southern Wesleyan University has named Dr. Royce Caines as dean of the School of Business.
Caines comes to Southern Wesleyan from Lander University, where he has served for 20 years as a professor of economics. For the past four years, he was dean of the College of Business and Public Affairs. He was also a teacher at York High School and has also served in the Army Reserves.
Caines earned both a master of science in agricultural economics and a Ph.D. in applied economics from Clemson University. He has published widely in economic, business and education journals.
Initially Caines will serve the university part-time until May, when he will assume the position on a full-time basis.
Dr. Keith Iddings, SWU provost, says he is pleased that Caine possesses a good understanding of the state’s business sector as well as the issues of higher education administration in the Southeast. Iddings added that Caine also has accreditation experience with both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Caines lives in Seneca with his wife Carey. He is an active member Grace Baptist Church.
Iddings said the university is deeply grateful to Dr. Shelley Chapman, who as interim dean continued to move the School of Business forward as the search for a dean progressed.
