Shearin awarded scholarship
Casey Shearin, a Southern Wesleyan University junior from Goldsboro, N.C., and member of the Women’s Track Team, was awarded the John and Jody Wheeler Ministry Scholarship.
The scholarship was made possible by the first-place finish of a team representing Southern Wesleyan in the NCCAA Pro-Am Golf Classic, which includes a two-day college scholarship round as part of the event. This team, comprised of Dustin Knapp, Pete Wood, Tom Harding, Treadwell Zeigler and Dan Wood, earnedSWU the $3,000 John and Jody Wheeler Ministry Scholarship to pass along to a deserving student-athlete who is in a missions or ministry related major. Harding and Ziegler are alumni, as are Pete and Dan Wood.
In addition to the missions/ministry scholarships, the 2014 Pro-Am raised almost $72,000 to support student-athletes and coaches with funding for sports ministry trips. These funds will assist the NCCAA in sharing the gospel around the world through athletics outreach. Many lives are changed each year through these trips.
SWU is a dual member of the NCCAA, in conjunction with their NCAA Division II status.
