Remembering Travis

Southern Wesleyan University Athletic Director Chris Williams unveils a plaque in memory of Travis Eiler, a 2010 graduate and student-athlete during a memorial and committal service Sept. 29 at the university’s cross country course.

Eiler was tragically murdered while serving in Central Asia Dec. 2, 2011. During the service, Warriors Cross Country Coach Chip Rouse reflected on Eiler's years as a student-athlete and Williams dedicated his memorial. Teammate Nick Hindes spoke in tribute to Eiler, teammate Meg Donaldson shared scripture and Rev. Ken Dill, university chaplain, led in a committal. Eric and Danielle Eiler, Travis’ parents, spread some of his ashes along the course. According to Dill, most of his ashes were scattered at the beach where he used to run. The plaque was placed on a hill at the course’s toughest spot as an encouragement to runners – just as Travis encouraged his teammates.
