North Augusta Student honored for service, sacrifice
U.S. Army Sgt. Nathan D. Young, a North Augusta student, has earned several awards including an Army Commendation medal, an Army Achievement medal, a Combat Action badge and a National Defense ribbon.
During his second tour in Iraq, Young was wounded by an anti-tank grenade, resulting in a traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. He medically retired from the military in February 2013.
Young currently lives in Evans, Ga., with his wife, Tabitha; her daughter, Emme, 11; and his service dog, Maggie. Thanks to Tyson Construction, a Southern Living Custom Builder Program builder, along with Irving Morris Foundation, Operation FINALLY HOME will provide the Young family with a home in 2015. Young’s former police force in Mobile, Ala., is also honoring him Nov. 16 with the Quilt of Honor.
Young and his wife Tabitha are enrolled in the same cohort at the North Augusta learning center. Read More of Young's story here.
