Master’s program offers flexibility for industry veteran
Webber, who works for Milliken and Company, thought that becoming an instructor for college-level evening classes would be a great opportunity, especially to help with college expenses for his children. But in order to teach at that level, he needed a master’s degree. When he started shopping around for degree programs, Webber discovered the Adult and Graduate Studies program at Southern Wesleyan University.
“I think that having class one night a week and a flexible second meeting is very beneficial,” said Webber, adding that he likes Southern Wesleyan’s comfortable, relaxed learning environment. “When you work eight hours, then go to class four hours at night, you don’t want to be sitting in a wooden chair.
Webber was also impressed with the quality of his professors and the content of the coursework, which he found to be relevant to his field and great preparation for his work in the classroom.
After earning his master of science in management degree, Webber went on to teach night classes in total quality management at Southern Wesleyan’s Central and Greenville locations, as well as courses at Tri-County Technical College.
“I enjoy teaching. It has always been fascinating to me,” said Webber, whose degree and teaching experience paid off when he became a manufacturing performance system consultant for the company.
