Henderson is recipient of Young Leader Award by Southern Wesleyan University Alumni Association
CENTRAL, S.C. – On Saturday, October 9, 2021 the Southern Wesleyan University Alumni Association held their annual Alumni Awards Brunch. Will Henderson, 2013 SWU youth ministry graduate, was the recipient of the Young Leader Award.
Upon graduation from SWU, he then completed his Master’s Degree at Arkansas State University in Digital Communication in 2019. He is currently working on his Ph. D at Clemson University in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management. He is employed by Clemson University as the associate director for the Social Media Listening Center and a lecturer in the communication department.
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Henderson worked with local and state partners to provide social media listening reports on what people were experiencing during the shutdowns. Henderson used social listening tools to determine needs across communities in South Carolina. In addition, Henderson worked with researchers and emergency councils to stay current with public response across health, political, and civil topics in 2020.
During the 2020 election, Henderson and his team’s research was featured in Bloomberg, USA Today, and local CBS and NBC affiliates along with other outlets. Henderson told news Channel WSPA regarding the Social Media Listening Center’s work, “One day we may be targeting the Clemson championship game and another we may be tracking the impeachment hearings.”
Henderson has received numerous certifications including Meltwater Social Listening, Good AdWords, The Hootsuite Platform, Hubspot Social Media Marketing, and is a Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Social Specialist.
He is also a member of the Cruise Lines International Association, The IAAPA (The Global Association for the Attractions Industry), the Southern States Communication Association, the Central States Communication Association, the Society for Marketing Advances, the national Commination Association, and the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
