Former SWU Golfer Wins PGA Beijing Championship
Former Southern Wesleyan golfer Peter Campbell shot a closing round of 70 to receive his first pro title during the Beijing Championship. Campbell passed China's Huilin Zhang to become the third Canadian to win on Tour.
After the second and third rounds, the Canadian native held a two-stroke lead over the field. He went on to finish 17-under. Campbell and Zhang remained close throughout the tournament, however Zhang missed his shot on the par-5 and allow Campbell to claim the title.
Campbell came to Southern Wesleyan in the Fall of 2003 and played golf for the Warriors for three seasons of his collegiate career. He went on to graduate from SWU with a bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2006. After his graduation from Southern Wesleyan, Campbell became a professional on the golf course in 2007. He competed on the PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica prior to competing in the PGA Tour China.
The first place finish in the Beijing Championship is Campbell's first championship victory. Before this, Campbell had finished in the top 10 ten times, three of those times finishing in the top two of the tournaments.
