Fine arts students advance in virtual singing competition
Students from SWU's Division of Fine Arts participated in the Musical Theater portion of the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) virtual competition. Each of these students represented the university well and received excellent feedback from other SC voice teachers who are members of NATS. Four students are advancing to the regional competition in the spring (pictured above, from top left): Kyra Hood, Josh Amerson, Sam Calcutt, and Alex Birch. Birch secured first place in his category and was honored on the NATS virtual honors recital broadcast to all SC NATS members and their students.
“We’re so proud of all the hard work our musicians are displaying through their art,” said music professor and voice teacher Dr. Amber James.
Founded in 1944, National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc. (NATS) is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world with more than 7,000 members in the United States, Canada, and more than 35 other countries.
