Duke Energy Foundation donation benefits SWU
Southern Wesleyan University students will benefit from a donation by Vick B. Dixon that will be matched by Duke Energy’s Matching Gift Program.
On Oct. 18, Dixon, an engineer at Duke Energy, presented Southern Wesleyan University with a $5,000 check, along with his Duke Energy Foundation Matching Gift Form, which combined will render a $10,000 donation.
Referring to 2 Corinthians 4:7, a verse in the Bible that says “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us,” Dixon said he felt God was leading him to make the gift.
“Vick has been such an encouragement to me,” said University President Todd Voss. “His daughter and mine were roommates at SWU and our friendship has continued from that day forward. This gift will help us in several areas, including taking the next step with our 100 acre wood outdoor education and leadership center concept. Vick has such an amazing heart!”
"We appreciate Vick and his generous spirit as well as that of Duke Energy,” said Southern Wesleyan’s Vice President for Development Lisa McWherter. “Matching gift programs serve as respectful mechanisms to multiply the impact of one's gift and I applaud the Duke Energy Foundation for supporting their employees in such a meaningful way. We would like to think Vick's thoughtful contribution coupled with Duke Energy's matching funds will inspire other donors to follow suit."
