    Southern Wesleyan University welcomed new and transfer students Aug. 17, kicking off Orientation weekend – a chance to become better acquainted with SWU life and each other. Orientation took place Aug. 17-19. Online classes began Aug. 20 and on-campus classes began Aug. 21.

    New Southern Wesleyan University students and their family members unload their belongings along Wesleyan Drive outside West Residence Hall. On Aug. 17, SWU welcomed new and transfer students to the Central campus.

    New students moved into West Residence Hall Aug. 17. Lending a helping hand were student leaders, including resident assistants, Life Guards (chaplains), Presidential Ambassadors and peer mentors. Also helping were volunteers from Trinity Wesleyan Church and Chris Wright of Campus Outreach.

    New students marked the beginning of their educational and spiritual journey during a “passing the mantle” ceremony, which took place Aug. 17 in the auditorium of Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center. New students received medallions to mark the beginning of their educational and spiritual journey, and 2012 SWU graduate Colicus Jones reunited with the University Singers to lead worship. Jones was also speaker for the service.
