He later served as an EMT and rescue squad volunteer, and served in the Army National Guard in military police and intelligence positions. Upon becoming a certified law enforcement officer, Bowen served for several years as a deputy sheriff in patrol, administrative, and field-training roles, before transitioning to higher education in 2012. Since that time, he has served in various criminal justice faculty roles at both Tri-County Technical College and Southern Wesleyan University. From 2016 to 2023, Bowen served as Southern Wesleyan University’s first Director of Campus Safety, where he held certifications as a security officer, security instructor, ALICE instructor, and campus protection officer. He is also a graduate of the National Association of Campus Safety Administrators Command College. In 2023, Bowen transitioned back into a full-time faculty role at Southern Wesleyan University, which is where he feels called to be.
