Southern Wesleyan street fair to showcase local businesses

Local businesses and organizations are showcasing their products and services to students beginning their fall semester at Southern Wesleyan University.

“The fair is a great opportunity for businesses to introduce themselves to students who may be new to Central and the surrounding areas, and who may not know about their services,” said David Arute, residence life coordinator and coordinator of student activities.

The university’s annual Street Fair will be Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the campus in Central.

Area businesses and organizations are invited to host a booth or table to highlight their products or services to those attending Southern Wesleyan University. Participation, for those hosting booths and for those attending, is free, compliments of the Student Activities Office at the university.

“The Street Fair celebrates the start of the school year with festivities and introduces students to what the local community has to offer,” Arute said. “We are excited not only our students seeing what the community has to offer, but also for the community to see what the growing campus of Southern Wesleyan University has to offer.”

There will be a live radio broadcast during the Street Fair, as well as door prizes for those who attend, he said.

“Participating this year, we have many different businesses and organizations that cover a variety of spectrums. Hospitals, banks, churches, non-profit organizations, chain restaurants, mom and pop restaurants, boutiques, salons, credit unions and grocery stores are all represented,” Arute said. Participating businesses and organizations will each be provided a table with two chairs and electricity will be available if needed.

To participate, contact Arute at 644-5123 or darute@swu.edu by Monday, Aug. 18.
