Southern Wesleyan receives donation

As part of the grand opening celebration for the new Wal-Mart store in Central Aug. 25, Southern Wesleyan University received a check for $1,000 from Wal-Mart. The university was among about 30 area organizations to receive a donation during the ceremony. From left, are Gene Jacobs, Wal-Mart store manager; Dr. David Spittal, Southern Wesleyan University president; Janelle Beamer, SWU director of public relations; Mary Costello, SWU executive director for development; and James Hansen, SWU vice president for development. The donation will be applied to the university’s Promise Fund, which provides scholarship programs and academic and support programs for students, according to Hansen.
