’87![]() Southern Wesleyan University Athletic Hall of Fame member Debbie Holcombe has received state recognition for exhibiting excellence in the field of physical education, to which she’s been dedicated for 20 years. Holcombe has served the last nine years as a physical education teacher at Byrnes High School. Holcombe is this year’s recipient of the state Founders Award for Teaching Excellence at the high school level. Holcombe earned the high school level Founders Award for Teaching Excellence, an honor presented by the South Carolina Association of Physical Education and Sport. ’92Barry Putnam, facilities services director of Wesley Commons, became one of the select group of professionals nationwide to earn the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist designation, identifying him as one of the industry’s top professionals with skills and knowledge specific to home modifications for aging-in-place. Putnam earned his bachelor’s degree in human resources. Wesley Commons is a continuing care retirement community in Greenwood, S.C. ’08
