Master of Ministry

SWU Division of Religion

Never has the task of the Church been so challenging; never have the needs been greater! But whether you are a senior or solo pastor, a staff minister or committed lay person, Southern Wesleyan University's Master of Ministry program is ready to help you build a quality graduate program to meet those needs.

Practically-oriented and designed for flexibility, the Master of Ministry program offers a non-traditional format to help you complete your graduate studies without a single Sunday away from your church or weekday job. Courses are available on a Friday night/Saturday model once a month for three months. And recent changes to the curriculum allow the student more choice in selecting courses particularly appropriate for his or her ministry responsibilities. Whatever your circumstances, whatever your needs, we have a program that works for you!

Upon successful completion of the Master of Ministry degree program, the graduate should be able to . . .

  • Apply the foundational truths of biblical and theological study to functional demands of the Christian ministry.

  • Provide leadership for ministry in a Christian congregation, parachurch agency, community, or constituency through sound principles of management and administration.

  • Demonstrate the skills to communicate the Gospel effectively using a variety of communication techniques.

  • Offer spiritual counsel in a variety of settings.

  • Correlate the multiple responsibilities of an ordained or lay ministry within the framework of a comprehensive theology of ministry.

  • Minister effectively in a variety of vocational positions in the church or a parachurch agency.
