Music major finding harmony at SWU

Godly professors who are professional, yet care about bringing out the best in students. Making friends who are there for you to provide moral support. These things came together in a harmonious way for Tiffany Moore while at Southern Wesleyan.

Community

“Everybody here is just so close-knit and is so caring – it’s like having one big family right here,” Tiffany said. “That’s the great thing about this being a Christian campus, because as Christians we all try to exemplify the love of Christ that He had for us, so we try to do the same for others – that’s a really great benefit to have.”

“Being here it really helps to keep you level-headed. It helps to keep those negative things outside of you, because you just have so many people who will lift you up.” Tiffany appreciates the honesty of faculty in discerning each student’s gifts and talents, helping them to find the career path that’s right for them.

“Bigger colleges have a lot of advantages, but one advantage that I don’t think they have is the closeness and connections you’ll have with your professors and other students. I can walk from Newton Hobson Fine Arts Center to the post office and pass four professors. Everyone will stop and say ‘hey’ and smile at you ‘how are you doing today?’”

Gaining confidence

As a musician, Tiffany credits SWU faculty members with helping stretch her vocal range and gaining confidence on the stage. She tours with the University Singers, and recently performed in “SWUsical – a celebration of Southern Wesleyan University musicals.

After graduating from SWU, Tiffany hopes to enter graduate school and learn music therapy and work with special education students. “It’s a really great program to work with students who are handicapped because music can touch their lives and help open up their feelings,” Tiffany said.
